I have an undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, and a Masters in Divinity from the Episcopal Theological Seminary in Cambridge Massachusetts. Part of my professional degree was earned at the Harvard Divinity School.  I was ordained as an Episcopal priest. As a young man I was married to a woman for 14 years and became the father of two children. We lived and worked in Viet Nam for a year and learned a deep respect for another culture and the Buddhist religion.  When I publicly came out as a gay man in 1970’s, my authority to function as a priest under the Episcopal Church ended.  I subsequently lived with a man for 12 years until his death.  And this was, of course, before gay marriage became legal in the USA.  After his death I adopted a young man who later revealed himself to be gay as well, and he became my third child. Both my former “husband” and my third child are African-American.  I am the father of a very large bi-racial extended family with five grandchildren, and I love the idea of helping to start new families, no matter from what background or heritage!

I am authorized to perform wedding ceremonies in the State of Maryland and in the District of Columbia under Universal Ministries.   I’ve had a great deal of success in crafting personal ceremonies for both straight and LBGT couples.  (See my Reviews page.)  I’d be very happy to provide those services to you!
